  North Korea Missle Launches Spark World OutrageJuly 05, 2006 10:41 NORTH KOREA test-fired a seventh missile last night as the United Nations Security Council prepared for urgent talks and Japan retaliated with economic sanctions.

At the same time South Korea raised its state of military readiness and said it would "deal strongly" with all threats from North Korea.

China called for calm. "We are seriously concerned about the events that have occurred," a Foreign Ministry spokesman, Liu Jianchao, said in a statement. "We hope that all sides will maintain calm and restraint, and do things conducive to the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and North-East Asia."

The US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, and diplomats from Japan, Russia, South Korea and the European Union condemned Pyongyang, describing its series of tests as provocative acts that threatened regional security.
