Open Letters to Our Leaders
United States Senator Dianne FeinsteinMay 12, 2006 17:44
Senator Feinstein,
As a high ranking Democrat who has say in the nomination of General Hayden to be the next chief of the CIA, I ask that you seriously consider the gravity of two major issues with the General that seriously question his integrity and desire to protect the rights of the American people. 1. As head of the NSA, the General implemented and has loudly proclaimed the virtues of a wiretapping program that subverted Federal law in the form of FISA. Until the legality of that program is determined, the General's qualifications and involvement are suspect. 2. As the head of the NSA, the General implemented a program to track millions of domestic phone records. This also has questionable legality. We should not appoint personnel to lead our nation's organizations who cannot follow the rule of law. If there is any question that a person cannot do so, then he or she should not head the nation's highest spy agency. Thank you. Support our site... Buy a bumper sticker! - Monday, June 15, 2009
